About the Breed Society
Since the formation of the Leicester Sheep Breeders’
Association in 1893, later to be called the Leicester Longwool
Sheepbreeders’ Association, members have strived to
keep the breed pure and to improve it in keeping with modern
demands.
What was once one of the most important duel purpose breeds
producing both mutton and fine quality wool, not to mention
being an important breed for producing sires for crossing
with other sheep breeds, the Leicester Longwool is now a Rare
Breed.
The Association Council and members are working to conserve
and promote the Leicester Longwool breed.
The Association is able to offer help and advice from Officers
and Council Members for the purchase and selection of sheep
for new or existing flocks, flock management and show preparation
for wool and sheep.
Currently offered:
- Pedigree registration and transfers
- Pedigree tracing
- Sheep for sale and wanted
- Flock inspections
- Official breed sale
- Promotional displays
