Delia Goodman
It
is with great sadness
this website has to report the death of the Leicester Longwool
Sheep Breeders Association President Delia Goodman. Our thoughts
are with her loved ones.
Having faced yet another difficult year with the restrictions put onto animal movements and cancellation of the later shows and many of the sales, we are pleased that it has not deterred people from becoming sheep keepers. We have gained some new members who have started new flocks and wish them every success for the future and hope that they enjoy their Leicester Sheep as much as our established members do.
The 2007 shows saw many successes, one being a great advertisement for the Leicester Longwool Breed at the Royal Show in July. A shearling ewe in wool, owned and bred by Davina Stanhope and Simon Johns won 2nd Reserve Individual Sheep (All Breeds), showing that it is possible for a Rare Breed to hold its own with the commercial breeds.
We hope that the Shows for 2008 will be able to go ahead as planned and will not be affected by the restrictions for Bluetongue Disease. For further details of Shows with classes for Leicester Longwool Sheep, please do contact us.
Following our very successful Open Day last May, we plan to hold a similar event in 2008. Details available shortly.
